The Phantom is an example of modern engineering applied to the 5 string banjo. We have improved upon an old idea that never became main stream, and that is the tunneled 5th string. The reason for this design is not all aesthetic. The absence of the 5th peg on the neck makes changing left hand positions easier, especially when using the thumb on the 5th string. Since a deep hole in the neck is not used for the 5th string mounting hole, the neck is actually stiffer and lends more solidly to the tone. The Radiused neck is slightly wider, but conforms to the hand with a slim, easy feel; the radius allows strength combined with easy playability. Often no inlays are installed on the Phantom, Allowing freedom of expression in any key and allowing the beauty of Nature's wood grain patterns to adorn the neck. The Walnut Phantom is made from Select Black Walnut, with Curly Maple Binding, and Cocobolo Fingerboard. Not only is Cocobolo beautiful, but stable during climatic changes.
